Here's the headline from a recent PricewaterhouseCoopers'  press release :  "U.S. Industrial Manufacturers Expect Lower Growth Rates for the Next 12 Months." Hmmm, that doesn't sound so good, does it? But when you drill down into the actual text of the press release (which is publicizing a new study), what's really going on, and what could just as easily have been trumpeted in the headline, is this: "U.S. Industrial Manufacturers Expect Growth Rate of 5.7% for the Next 12 Months." It's curious that PWC chose to accentuate the negative in the headline rather than the positive. True, there is a downside to the story -- growth projections a

CHICAGO Chicago History   "It is hopeless for the occasional visitor to try to keep up with Chicago. She outgrows his prophecies faster than he can make them." - Mark Twain, 1883 Chicago was only 46 years old when Mark Twain wrote those words, but it had already grown more than 100-fold, from a small trading post at the mouth of the Chicago River into one of the nation’s largest cities, and it wasn’t about to stop. Over the next 20 years, it would quadruple in population, amazing the rest of the world with its ability to repeatedly reinvent itself. And it still hasn’t stopped. Chicago continues to be a place that many people from diverse backgrounds call home. Before it was a city, it was the home to numerous indigenous peoples, a legacy which continues to frame our relationship with the city, the land, and the environment. Today, Chicago has become a global city, a thriving center of international trade and commerce, and a place where people of every nationality and back

Menu The premier web site of Edo speaking people. Nation of people who are mostly located in the Midwestern part of Nigeria, Western  Africa.   Edo - Akure Question From: DR NOWAMAGBE A OMOIGUI Segun, The heritage of Edo-Akures is both military and commercial. Many parts of modern Ondo and Ekiti states were part of the Benin Empire and thus many Edos traded within the territories, often living in "quarters" (like sabongari). Also, victorious soldiers often stayed behind to rule over small dominions, leaving behind descendants born of local yoruba mothers. Those who remarried Edos retained their links. Those who did not, tended to get assimilated into the Yoruba tribe - preferring to benefit from the status of a majority tribe as the influence and power of Benin declined. Prior to recent developments, this interaction resulted in the development of a unique language (a cross between Akure-Yoruba and Bini) which is almost lost. To appreciate the role of Edo-AKure (or Bini-AKu

OWO   See All View all images in the media gallery → TYPES OF ART n/a HISTORY The Owo site was first excavated in 1969 by Ekpo Eyo in the contemporary Yoruba town of Owo. Archaeologists have found terracotta sculptures dating to the 15th century. Owo is situated halfway between the Nigerian towns of Ife and Benin in southern Nigeria, and so it is not surprising that Owo art displays characteristics of both traditions. Some of the Owo objects show similarities to the art of Benin, while others display characteristics that are unique to Owo. Ife was then declining in power as Oyo, another Yoruba city situated in the north, was ascending. Benin in the 15th century was expanding its influence to both the east and west and must have affected Owo. Owo claims that it was never conquered by Benin, but there are many elements of Owo culture clearly borrowed from Benin, such as chieftaincy titles and the royal regalia and crowns.
