Strike, Insecurity , electricity, water supply major issues discussed in Edo State Polytechnic SUG/students Congress.

Strike, electricity,water, and insecurity the four major subjects of discussion deliberated on during SUG/Students congress in Edo State Polytechnic on May 11 2021.

The newly elected SUG president Miss Sandra Soga Omolere and her executives  for the year 2020/2021 has held their first congress with the students of Edo state Polytechnic, yesterday in Mass communication class which is the former school hall on May 11, 2021. 

Among the issues discussed are strike, electricity, water supply and insecurity. Mr President, Miss Omolere commences her speech by after the national and school anthem, she thank the students of Edo State Polytechnic for electing her, and she is ready to work for them as aforetime promised.

The issue of stike was discussed and students were given equal opportunity to as questions on it. Mr President said she verbalized with the ASUP chairman on the reason why strike in Edo State Polytechnic is still so potent and whether it is a national or State strike. The ASUP chairman responded that the strike is a national strike. She asked again that if the strike is said to be a national strike how come a good number of Polytechnics in Nigeria have resumed? 

The ASUP chairman said those Polytechnic that has resumed signed an agreement with ASUP and again payed some amount which the Rector Prof Falodun of Edo State Polytechnic has not yet agreed to signed. "My government is working on that and again, I and some or my executives will pay a visit to the State government to discuss that, and give the school ultimatum of a week or two weeks to resolve that, she said.

The second issue deliberated on was the issue of Electricity. A question was raised that for over 7weeks now the school premises has be in total darkness in the night which Mr President also made known to the students about her move on electricity issue. Mr President said "the rector, Prof Falodun called me last week Monday, that he has been working on it and again, he promised that the school transformer will start functioning this week Monday but up till this moment, the transformer is not yet functioning.

She promised to meet the rector or telephone him on that immediately the meeting elapses.

Thirdly, the issue of water was discussed which the Mr President said the issue of water can be traced to shortage of power supply in the school, but she was objected that before the issue of electricity, water has not be in circulation in the school and most of the time, the hostelites browse for water. Mr President, Miss Omolere said she was ignorant of this and she thank the students for bringing it to her notice and she will make sure things are properly fixed on that aspect. 

The Hostel is in a dilapitated state, a damsel said but Mr President, Miss Sandra promised to fix the one she is able to fix on behalf of the institution, and this will prove the benevolence act of her government. During the Mr President talk she called the attention to a point that even her government may not be able to provide the solution needed to all the stated problems because they are enormous, but she promised to invest her possible efforts to solve many cogent ones.

Last issue taken to be one of the very important issues, that need immediate attention was the issue of insecurity in the school. The President Miss Omolere said, she has been working on that, and she urged the Voluntary security officers (para military) to endeavour to join hands together with the school securities inorder to bring serenity to the school premises. But it was said that the rector has aforetime rejected the service of any para military such as Man O war, Scoutt but the President promised to see to that and promised that her government will sort that out during her next meeting with the rector.

Mr President stated the reasons why she disapproved the last online protest, that it was not that she is supporting the management "and again, how can I support the management when they are not the one that voted me in". We are only permitted to confront after going through the process of the first 2c. When it is time for protest I will tell you, pls do not engage in a protest that is not supported by the SUG because you can be molested by the school management if you are caught.
