A Heartbreaking Journey: Woman Returns to Nigeria After Eight Years of Torture and Abuse in Libya


A young Nigerian woman identified as Nanny has shared her heartbreaking story after finally returning to Nigeria following more than eight years of unimaginable suffering in Libya.

According to her testimony, which was shared on the official Facebook page of Brodaseun Family, a humanitarian content creator, Nanny revealed that she was deceived at a young age with the promise of being taken abroad to pursue her dream of becoming a musician in America. Instead, she was trafficked to Libya, where her dreams quickly turned into a nightmare.

She recounted enduring years of anguish, physical abuse, torture, sexual assault, and exploitation. In the course of her ordeal, she became pregnant on several occasions after being repeatedly raped by her employer, her employer's sons, and some of their associates. She disclosed that she gave birth to four children during her captivity, but tragically, none of the children are currently with her, and their whereabouts remain unknown.

Now back in Nigeria, Nanny said life has remained extremely difficult. She revealed that she has no home and currently sleeps inside a roofless wooden kiosk where she sells petrol for someone else just to survive. Despite escaping her captors, she continues to battle the emotional and psychological scars of her traumatic experience.

Speaking during an interview with Brodaseun Family, Nanny appealed to compassionate Nigerians for assistance. She explained that her greatest desire is to reconnect with her family, secure decent accommodation, and receive support to establish a small business that would enable her rebuild her life with dignity.

Her emotional story has touched many people online. While several individuals have called for financial assistance, others have emphasized the urgent need for professional medical and psychological care, noting that the visible signs of trauma suggest she is still struggling with the painful memories of her years in captivity.

Nanny's story serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers of human trafficking and the devastating consequences of false promises of a better life abroad. It also highlights the urgent need for collective efforts to support survivors, helping them recover, reunite with their families, and rebuild their lives with hope and dignity.
